The itty tiger that kicked Elmo’s ass
Before Lucy was born, my wise mom bought us a small package of Huggies, Pampers and Costco’s Kirkland diapers.
The goal: find the one we liked best, then stockpile. And if you remember those early, non-stop-liquidy-poop days, hoarding wasn’t just practical, it was necessary.
Within days, the clear winner was, surprisingly, Costco. They absorbed great, fit snug, had wide tabs, were stretchy but not limp, and the price was right: around $40 for 200 diapers. Lucy’s in size 4’s now, and we paid $42.99 for 180 this weekend.
(And not that it really matters, but Costco diapers — with their little animals such as giraffes and tigers — seem less…evil and commercialized than Elmo and Mickey Mouse.)
We didn’t like the fit of Huggies, and the Pampers smelled. Yes, smelled. They had this built-in baby powder scent that my husband hated and I worried that, a) wasn’t good to have a chemical against Lucy’s skin 24-7, and b) would cause a yeast infection ’cause I know if I had that in my panties, the good bacteria would shortly die from the bad.
We’ve used Costco diapers ever since and recommend them to everyone.
And you? What encases your wee one’s bottom?

We put Huggies Supreme on my granddaughters bum
I feel totally cheap saying this, but I usually buy whichever brand is on sale. If there’s a good sale, I’ll buy enough for at least 2 months. I switch between Huggies, Pampers and Luvs and so far it hasn’t been a problem. I’ve tried the Costco brand too but our Costco membership expired a while ago and we haven’t renewed it. So the point of this is that I don’t have a clear favorite.
COSTCO IT IS..i totally agree!!
Alexandria is into size 4 now as well…and the odd time we could not get to costco in time before we ran out, we have had to grab another brand name pack and WOW..honestly, they were garbage…pampers were stinky and huggies weren’t very soft on her skin, the tabs were cheap and they were not very absorbant (just my opinion) – for all the hype and commercial praise they get – totally not worth having your babe wake up every morning pee’d right through, or wake up in the night in a sleepy crank because they leaked through and made the whole bed yucky..no fun for mummy at 2am…
god bless the costco ones…
