Bits — with birthday!

  • wow, y’all were, like, really quiet yesterday. Sometimes it’s hard to know whether that means a) you were bored silly, or b) nodded your head in agreement and felt no need to share thoughts
  • all hail Motrin for sleep-filled, non-screaming nights
  • Lucy claps for Eric when she sees him now. Like hardcore, grinning, giggling, bursting applause. I am totally jealous. He says I need to “learn new tricks” to get the same response, but refuses to share his. Any suggestions?
  • #1 most selfish benefit of daycare? No dirty diapers to change for a week!
  • I have two deep and delving and interesting posts to do (on mom truths and bloggers as self-indulgent whiners, yippee!) but so very little time. Soon…
  • it’s funny because I’ve been at home for weeks kinda twiddling my thumbs, and suddenly the car needs Drive Clean, freelance articles need written, my dad needs help, work for my sis is due, the big biggie big day happened, homework ensued, 17 emails need answering, and hotdamn tomorrow is my birthday
  • yep, at 5:45 p.m. March 22 I turn the big 28, unequivocally in my late twenties. The only unnegotiable thing I asked for is the 7th (and final) season of the Golden Girls. You know where I’ll be tomorrow night and the weekend: parked on the couch with Spencer Dog, the Yellow Blanket and a few glasses of wine with my favourite classy ladies

Motrin — best friend of the teething baby’s mom.

Pearl walks around the house looking for Daddy and runs to the front door when he comes home. Yet, when I pick her up from daycare she runs the other way…I feel your pain. I get her full attention in the morning though because she desperately wants to nurse and dad has yet to figure out how to lactate.

I hope that the big biggie big day went well for you!

Happy Birthday to you! Enjoy the late twenties, I only have 3 months left of them…eek!

Okay, I was totally going to go on about how much I too love that show, but I missed this last season and about how heavenly a weekend curled up with the girls would be and on and on and gush and gush…then I re-read what you wrote. I had read the Gilmore Girls on the first pass.
The GOLDEN Girls? Really? Now, I remember watching the show when I was younger, but I don’t think that I remember it being that good. Now, give me Kate and Allie re-runs and then I’d be in for a marathon viewing weekend.

Hahaha, Carolyn you made me laugh outloud!

Yep, I’ve been a huge GG fan since I was in public school and would watch the show when I came home. I have a beat-up old VHS tape marked DO NOT TAPE OVER OR DIE with episodes recorded from TV, filled with 80’s commercials and everything (it has become a keepsake if only for seeing Dan Marino pushing Isotoner Gloves).

Getting everything on DVD has been the greatest thing ever. The show is my comfort, what I watch when I’m sad or nervous or just need something familiar — and a great laugh because I think those ladies are ridiculously funny.

I use Hylands Teething Tablets (even though my doctor says not to because they are a homeopathic remedy and don’t have the same regulations as pharmaceuticals) because Eirinn is a bit of a drama queen. She gags at any flavour of medication, even if I dilute it in a bottle. She can taste one drop in a 9 oz bottle of milk. Then she makes herself projectile vomit. So, we’ve discovered Hylands and are happy with the way they work. They are super expensive, but seem to work on her pain and I don’t have to clean up barf.

Oh, and thanks a lot for mentioning GG. Now I have the theme song in my head.

…you would see the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say ‘Thank you for being a friend’…

Okay, so I got thinking about which could be a familiar sort of comfort show for me (with the childhood criteria in mind) and I think it may have to be “The Facts of Life”.
Jenn O — you want a theme song stuck in your head: “You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and then you have..”

Though today, I would have to say that if I want to escape, glass of wine in hand and watch the same episodes over and over then the Gilmore Girls would be it hands-down. That would be the one television series DVD box-set that I would love to own (Did I mention my birthday is in 3 months — the big 2-9 (+ 1))

    Hey, Carly

DON”T read any of your blog replies until you get your “paying articles” written. How did the job interview go? Have a good birthday tomorrow.

    Hey Carly:

Did you know that the Golden Girls is your Grandma’s favourite show? Excuse me other than Survivor and something about a guy named ‘Monk’. The show name is drawing a blank with me. Too bad Grandma does not have a DVD player she could borrow them from you. Umm..maybe sometime when she visits again you can let her watch a show or two. I know that she would love that.
Happy pre birthday. I will not be at work tomorrow so I will email you a day late.

Aunt Judy, I thought Grandma’s favourite show was Hockey Night in Canada?
