Sick
Our Lucy is sick. She stayed from home Daycare Debbie’s yesterday (my mom is a lifesaver for coming down
and looking after Lucy so I could work) and is home again today. In order of appearance, we have a runny nose, weeping-green-gunked right eye, low-grade fever, coughing like a seal who partied a little too hard last night and smoked a pack of cigarettes, and this morning we welcomed thick, flourescent green snot.
Nights, as you can imagine, have been shot to hell. But they are far more manageable when your baby is sick and in pain and just lies with her head on your shoulder in the dark, moaning. Oh, my poor sweet girl.
Despite the sickness, Lucy is almost her normal self. She’s still playing and speed crawling, taking a few steps here and there, talking non-stop and being a loveable pain in the ass — she just wants to be held a little more. And she’s snotty.
I don’t know if all babies are this way, if they have this ability to just blow through illness. ‘Cause if I was sick like she is, I’d be bundled up on the couch whining and bitching.
We call her Super Trooper Lu-Lu, Esquire.

Poor Lucy …
Our little Caity is on her first cold now too – only 12 weeks old
Last night was the worst. We figure she must have a sore throat because she started screaming (the “Mom-this-hurts-fix-it” scream) and wouldn’t stop. She wouldn’t eat even when offering her a most favourite treat a.k.a. “the girls”. Probably hurts too much to eat. We gave her a dose of Tempra and she fell asleep. No fever, just green snot everywhere. She can’t eat properly because she can’t breathe …
oh and those stoopid snot suckers that they sell in drugs stores don’t work! Can’t get them in her teeny tiny nostril! Might try one of the ear ones, they have a smaller point. Anyone have any ideas??
I’ve been putting Vicks Vaporub under her nose and that helps a little. Baby cold medicine too.
Now her daddy and I are sick too.
But you know .. Caity’s still such a happy baby (when you’re not wiping her nose or performing some other indignity upon herself). Poor little thing.
I feel your pain Carly….
Kylie has the snotty nose too. I blame it all on the changing weather. Nice and warm one day, rainy and damp the next. blah
She also gets the red cheeks like Lucy. I can clear them up in an afternoon by applying a bit of Aquaphor to them. Give it a try
