16 weeks, redeux

It’s true what they say that you take less photos of the second (and subsequent) babies.

This is only the second photo of me gestating the Parasite2, taken this morning when I was outside gardening (yes, that’s my gardening hat, which I wear in the front yardgarden_belly.jpg where people see me, too, much to Eric’s embarrassment). With Lucy, we took a pic each week from the day I peed positive right up until moments before leaving for the hospital.

Being pregnant the second time around isn’t as…magical as it was the first time. I know what to expect. I know, generally, what each month feels like, what labour feels like, what hell — and excitement and wonder — the first few weeks are. There isn’t that anticipation of the unknown this time around.

I hope this child isn’t resentful of that. I know second (and subsequent) children who are. But I know more who aren’t, who know that love doesn’t come in the form of photos.

    Cute little belly, Carly :)

Did yours pop out faster the second time around too? With Lexy it took nearly 5 months before I really showed (similar to how you look now), with Caity it was at least a month earlier. I wish I had more belly shots. They say that a good way to show how the baby is growing after they’re born is to put them next to the same item, once a month and take a picture and see how much they’ve grown.

A friend of ours did some things that I sincerely wish we could have. She had some maternity shots done when she was about eight months pregnant and she looks so beautiful and HAPPY. It was one of those where the husband and her had their hands on her belly and it’s such a nice picture of the family. They also did the 3d ultrasound thing.

I wanted to do a belly cast so bad but never got around to it :( The time has passed now …

Nearly every second of Lexy’s first two years is documented on film. Caity .. well .. not so much. Part of the problem was our camera was broken - I just got a really good one for Mother’s Day and have certainly made up for it.

It happens. Doesn’t mean you love the symbiotic relationship you have with your second any less than your first … I think it’s just the novelty has worn off …
