Zellers, BPA, and pump question

Enough people have emailed and written about this now that it must be true: Zellers is giving store credit if you return any Avent products because of the issues surrounding BPA. You don’t need a receipt or packaging or anything.

Rumour has it the store is only doing this until Friday.

Has anyone done this yet? And what are your thoughts on breast pumps? I have an Avent one, and really liked it for what small pumping I did (and plan to do after the Parasite2 arrives). I plan to just pump into a bottle, then transfer straight into freezer bags or BPA-free bottles for feeding. I don’t know if it’s worth it to find and adjust to a brand new one for the few minutes the milk will be in the bottle?

For the simplicity of pumping and freezing, I put the plastic bag right to the horn instead of having to do that step of bottle to bag for freezing. It wasn’t like I was walking around or anything so the spillage factor didn’t come into play. Perhaps a small rubber band would help secure the bad to the horn? Hope this helps.
I wasn’t using Advent bottles as I have a Medella (Pump in Style pump).

A mom at our daycare returned all her bottles to Toysrus and got her money back too. Even the sterilizer.

Aparently Toys R Us is not giving as much $$ as Zellers. I returned our bottles (Gerber old style) to the Bowmanville Zellers and she didnt even blink an eye. Just be aware of how you bought the bottles, like in packages of 3 or 1 and make sure you have them all together. I am going to be taking back my Nuby sippies also.

Sorry I dont know anything about Breast Pumps but they are taking those back as well as long as all the pieces including the bottles it came with are with it.

    HTH !

I took everything back about an hour ago. I had a sanitizer, a pump, 4 novelty bottles (Toronto Maple Leaf logo on them), 4 small Avent bottles and 9 large Avent bottles. I nearly fainted when she told me that I had just scored a $262 store credit.

And to think, if I hadn’t heard about the Zellers return thing, I would have just thrown $262 directly into the trash.

About the pump. I’m definitely going to get another one, but I’m going to do some research first. I was just going to keep the Avent pump and do the same (quickly transfer), but I decided to just start over fresh with a new one. I liked it and it was pretty comfortable, but it squeeked anyway.

I highly recommend the Pump In Style by Medela. It’s kind of expensive but it was great for me.

I loved my avent pump too, but my thoughts are that since you get a full refund, you may as well return it, see what your other options are, and if nothing else, you can get the exact same pump (only a newer version) again.

I have heard that they will only accept the Avent pump if you have the bottles to go with it. Is this true? Anyone know? I stupidly threw out allllllll of my bottles (UGH!) right when I got my Born Free ones. I’m so mad at myself…

Are you ladies returning old used bottles? I have a ton that I have kept from Jackson… no receipt… just a bunch of used bottles. I will pass this on to my other g/f with new babies if that is the case…

Yes, it’s any Avent cups and bottles, as far as I understand, Cheryl.

Not the cups. The Avent sippy cups are safe; even on the “safe” lists put out on many blogs and websites. For example: http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2007/05/sippy-cup-showdown-safer-bpa-free-sippy.html

We’re even in the process of replacing the bottles with the Magic Cup line of Avent cups because they fit the nipples, which were not being refunded.

But you can return your used bottles. All of the bottles I just took back were used with Eirinn and are over two years old.

I did the same return everything but they wont take back any breast pumps I still have my AVENT pump,I pumped and froze in the avent bottles but I guess that was a no brainer. Does anyone know anything about the linerbags??? Gerber and Playtex etc. Are they safe??? I only find they are contributing to extra plastic garbage which I try to avoid. I haven;t pumped in ages with Ethan. With Annika I had a stoke pile of milk in freezer, but not this time.

I tried to return my Avent bottles and breast pump to my Toys R Us and they said they had to be unused and in the original packaging. Obviously the bottles and breast pump are used. I don’t know what to do?

I think it’s too late now, Danielle. Zellers was only doing returns until yesterday. Today (and in the future), you need receipts and original packaging, like any other return.

I’m wondering what would happen if you call Avent directly to see what they can offer or suggest. Might lead nowhere, but it could be worth a try.

I heard that Toys R Us, Zellers and Sears were taking back the bottles without receipt or packaging, however both Toys R Us and Zellers have stopped as it is not an official recall yet. I haven’t found out about Sears yet though.

    …Replying to Jen O.
I’ve heard that if you contact Avent they will send you the Avent magic cups (sippy cups) which are 100% compatible with the Avent breast pumps…with the magic cups you can hook them right up to the pump and they fit on, and then you can put the nipple and cap (from the bottles) on the magic cup. The nipples and caps are BPA free so then you can just use these instead :))

? - Yup, I called Avent a couple of weeks ago and should be receiving my 9th and 10th sippy cups in the mail shortly. I already knew they were compatable, but told them that I wanted to “give them a try” and also that I will have two kids of sippy cup age. So they’re sending me two! Using the Magic Cups with the Avent nipples has always been my BPA-free plan from day one of this nonsense. No sense wasting perfectly good nipples when there is a suitable BPA bottle replacement available (and for much cheaper than most of the other options.
