A bit of everything

  • Thanks very much for your baby waking tips. It occurs to Eric and I that the blanket we normally loosely swaddle Alice in is probably too small now. She’ll hopefully do better with a larger one. Because you’re all right: Once she gets down or near the mattress, she wakes up and instantly shoves her hand in her mouth. Perhaps pinning it and the rest of her appendages will help. I’ll let you know
  • Are you staying warm? Holyshite it’s freezing out there. Late yesterday afternoon I saw a teenage girl walking downtown in just a thin jacket, and thought, “Deargod, you look ridiculous. How in the world can you think you’re cool with no winter gear on, in minus 1,000 temperatures? I hope you freeze your skinny ass off.” Then I realized that used to be me…15 years ago. And then I felt old. And know my Mom will read that and snort in laughter and roll her eyes
  • Having a second kid means Eric and I can’t shovel together anymore. I really miss when we’d get Lucy to bed, then head outside with the baby monitor stuffed in a jacket pocket and clear the driveway, chatting in between lifts, our voices freezing in the air. Now, I can’t shovel during the day (even if Lucy’s napping, what the heck do I do with Alice? It’s not like she sleeps at the same time, nor for as long or as deep, and I certainly can’t shovel with her on me) and end up stuck inside nursing at night while Eric heads out alone
  • Alice had her 2 month well baby visit Tuesday. She’s 12.4 lbs., and a whopping 25.5″ long– which means she’s grown four inches already, and explains why she’s busting out of her onesies lengthwise lately. Alice also had her first round of needles, and let me tell you: The second time around, it doesn’t get any easier to see your sweet baby turn tomato red and wail like a banshee. Know that cry that silent for a few seconds before the walls start shaking with the rapid inhale and screech that follows? We had several of those
  • Did I tell you the doctor phoned just before Christmas and said Alice actually did not have thrush? Her mouth swab came back negative. So we stopped the Nystatin treatment. But the yeast keeps coming back in her diaper almost as soon as we stop using the cream to treat it. The doctor is supposed to call this week with a treatment plan
  • BTW, if you’re ever told to get a Canesten/antifungal cream to treat baby’s diaper yeast rash? Most drug plans don’t cover it, so grab some off the shelf. But skip over the expensive women’s version, and head for ringworm/jock itch cream — it’s exactly the same stuff (miconazole) but almost half the price
  • After her bath last night, Lucy is wrapped up in a white towel with pink rabbit ears and feet: “I’m a bunny fajita, Daddy! Eat me!”

Bunny fajita! That’s hilarious. Hana’s always a beautiful yellow egg after her bath (she loves to be totally wrapped up in a big yellow towel) and Jamie and I always say were going to eat her. So cute hearing Jamie make little “nom nom nom” sounds while Hana giggles under the towel.

Yes I can relate to the teenager, but you did one better…wet hair….as well as no winter gear!
You survived, but my heart was tested to the limit

I look forward to seeing and hearing what Lucy and Alice will do on this topic! Even now it is a fight to get Lucy to wear mitts!
