Posted in: Blog: Life with Lucy & Alice, photos

Aside from one of the worst drives of my life last night (the sun was on Alice and she was hysterical screaming and crying for an hour ohsweetjeezus), we’re back from the cottage. It was a wonderful, estrogen-filled visit of beach, snacks, rest and fun. We go back in August for a week, this time with Eric and Spencer Dog. I can’t wait.

Aw – looks like you guys had a blast. Cottage life in the summer is the best!

Love the pic of the 3 of you with Lucy giving the peace sign – because that is adorable. And the look of sisterly adoration that Alice is giving Lucy in that pic – that made my womb twinge for a 2nd…

Great pictures!!! I see it was a cool one for you guys though as you are all bundled up – are we sure this is really July!!!!!

Great pics. Glad you had a good time. My family lives in Kingston, so I’ve also battled with the sun while driving with wee ones in the back. To combat sun I have used the shades you get from the store, a blanket or receiving blanket hung on the coat hanger thingie on the ceiling and stretched to the seat in front & behind, and their hats… But a baby can sabotage the things you’ve done for their own sun protection.

Thanks for the tip and sympathy, Cathy. Our window sun shade would not stick to the back window, and I never had the thought of rigging something else up.

Then I called Eric — in hysterics because Alice would. not. stop. crying. and Lucy was starting to get scared — and he suggested a blanket or sheet or something to try and block it. I ended up digging out a crib sheet and hooking it around the infant seat handle and tucked into the head rest. Fortunately that seemed to do the trick.

A good thing to remember for next time, that’s for sure!

Laura, yes, Tuesday was COLD. Like 12 degrees or something ridiculous. I had two pairs of socks on inside the cottage! And because we’re right on the water, there is a breeze, too.

Fortunately it really warmed up Wed and Thurs, and we were able to wear shorts etc. It’s amazing how much the weather can change there — you have to pack everything! And so much for kids. Lucy went through multiple pairs of pants, shirt and shorts. And don’t get me started on socks…

Thanks for sharing the pics. I love that great Ontario beach!

We’ve put one end of a blanket in the open window and then rolled it up so that the blanket doesn’t move and baby can’t pull it because it’s wedged in the window – only if you have air conditioning in your car though .. works wonders and saves your sanity.

Don’tcha love how they scream like it’s your own personal fault that the sun is shining in their face …

My fave of your trip is the one you chose as well…! Oh wow it’s such a great photo. All of you look so happy and so ‘in the moment’ if that makes sense..!

Carly the pics are great! Question, did you have trouble getting Alice to take a bottle? I am dying here trying to get Eden to take one! Even tried getting other people to give her one!

  10. On July 11th, 2009 at 3:15 pm, Carly said:

    Hey Nicole,
Yes, we did, but it eventually took. Eric’s Dad made it a game — kept putting it in her mouth, then taking it away. She was all grabby for it, and ever since then, has taken one. THANK GOODNESS. You might try a faster nipple, too, depending on how old Eden is. Definitely leave the house, too, and stay away as long as your boobs will let you. She’ll give in eventually…

Awesome! Love peace sign Lucy, but it is Alice looking at Lucy in that shot that melts my heart (or maybe she is looking at you).
