First steps

There is something magical not only from a mother hen perspective (do you see my preening feathers?), but also from a biological perspective to watch a human learn to walk. It is pure, raw evolution in the making. I am so humbled to have seen this twice in my life, and it is breathtaking each time.

I love the look of pure glee on Alice’s face. She is determined and stubborn and proud. It amazes me, at just 10.5-months-old, that she can feel and so clearly articulate such emotions without saying a word.

Aww, she’s so cute. She’ll be running by the time I see her in 5 weeks.

Wow – early walker! Congrats proud mumma! And thanks for bringing a smile to my face this morning – first steps (and the accompanying expression) are v. fun to watch.

Once again, she’s doing something exactly like (and when) Eirinn did. So, from experience, I would like to wish you good luck with that. CARDIO 24/7 FROM HERE ON IN, BUDDY. I was so relieved when Avery was a later walker (13 months) and got a few extra months before I felt like I was doing a full-on Iron Man Triathalon every single day.

Maybe it’ll help me burn the last of this baby weight.

Thankfully, because she’s young and still small, I can — AND DO — shove her in the exersaucer when I need time to use the bathroom or make dinner. Tossing Cheerios to her in the wheel of neglect is always so satisfying. I’m trying to teach her to catch them in her mouth (“Look, Pumpkin! Do what Spencer is doing!”) but they usually just bounce off her forehead.

You have such a way with words to capture the moment. Your girls will be able to look back on your writings and get a real sense of how magical (and trying) being a mom can be. Kudos.

Wow, I never noticed until I just watched this again how precariously close Alice’s skull is from connecting with that weight on the floor when she falls the second time.

    Whoops.
